How It Works
-
Sleep is more than time in bed
Sleep is an active process where your brain and body need the right conditions, especially the right temperature, to function optimally. Because deep recovery happens during your most restorative sleep phases: Slow-Wave Sleep (Deep Sleep) & REM Sleep.
-
Hidden problem: fragmentation
Many sleep disruptions are invisible. You may not fully wake up, but your body still briefly exits restorative sleep stages. These micro-arousals fragment sleep and reduce recovery. Two surprisingly common causes are temperature instability and physical discomfort.
-
How sleep works
To fall asleep, your core body temperature must drop by roughly 1–2°C. Once you’re asleep, temperature stability remains important throughout the night. At the same time, your brain continues monitoring the body for potential “threats”. If the skin senses irritation, pressure or discomfort, it can trigger micro-arousals that fragment deeper sleep.
